Is a literature review the same as a theoretical framework?

No. A literature review surveys and synthesises what is known about a topic, identifies gaps, and situates your study within existing scholarship. A theoretical framework is the specific explanatory structure you select or build from that literature to guide your research. The literature review is the process; the theoretical or conceptual framework is the product — the lens you carry forward into your methodology and analysis. This distinction is sometimes obscured in dissertations where the framework emerges as the final section of the literature review chapter, but the two remain conceptually distinct even when structurally adjacent.
